Protective style time.

New hair makes me dance.

For the winter, I purchased a half way Outre- Tammy.  I've heard good things about her and I have seen her in person.

She was about 20 dollars at my local bss. She is big and surprisingly soft for synthetic hair. I co-washed using a VO5 condish in cool water. Then, air dryed Tammy overnight. Fluffed lighty and was all set!

My mom has two Tammy's. One for everyday use. The second for special occasions. Smart move.

  • Make sure to moisture hair underneath.
  • You can cowash the hair before you wear it.
  • Treat it well. I don't sleep with Tammy, finger comb her lightly. If she is not going to be worn for while, I don't leave her naked. (She goes back in the package.)

I liked this style for Tammy. Styling Tammy using twists.

Happy Hair.

Rough patch.

"Hate is strong word but I really really really don't like you." When you hate your job, it can be such a soul crushing experience. I've neglected my body and hobbies I enjoy because of it. If anything, It should have pushed me to do the things I enjoy the most.

Blog- you will not be ignored no longer.
Body-you will be going to the gym 3-4 times a week. (Ok,  lets start with 2..)
Soul is happy again.

23 has been quite a year. I'm ready for 24.

Marley Bun.

I love my hair. However, I have been wearing the same style for the past 7-9 months. I'm bored. My boyfriend's band has a jazz competition this Friday night at Blue 82 in downtown Albany. So obviously I want to look cute.  I'm with the band!

Also, fall is quickly approaching and I want to start implementing protective styles. I want to get better at styling and have options.

YouTube! A style challenged girl's best friend. Unless you have a friend that does your hair (lucky). I watched a number a videos and stumbled upon 3 I found super helpful:
BlakIzBeautyful's bun, MissGlamourGirl1992 bun and bang and mstanish1 bun

I went to my neighborhood BSS and purchased a pack of Model Model Marley hair for 5 bucks and a pack of small bobby pins for a dollar. I picked up the hoops in the pics for 1.50. Less than 10-Cheap and Chic!

I practiced on a old twistout. I misted my hair with water and added a bit of shea butter to my hair before adding ecostyler with Argan Oil. I added three flat twist in the back because my hair was not stretched enough to place into a pony. Then, I slicked all the hair as best as i could with a Ouchless Goody band.

I two strand twisted one side on the Marley hair and placed the hair on my hair using the original rubber band. I started wrapping the loose hair around and bobby pinned as I went. After that was done, I wrapped the other side and bobby pinned that. ALL DONE!

This style can be sleek or you can make your bun as big and messy as you want. After I master doing this, I want to try adding the faux bang featured in MissGlamourGirl1992's video.  I will post pics of the "true" bun results after Friday night.

TIPS:

  • If you are going to an event, birthday, want to look FLY for Saturday night and etc, I would highly recommend trying this out first. Practice makes perfect.
  • If you plan on blow drying your hair to stretch it, heat protectant first. Grapeseed oil is a great heat protectant that you might have in your bathrooms! CHI 44 thermal protectant spray and IC hair polisher heat protector serum are two that come to mind as well.
  • Moisture your ends before putting them away!
  • Your edges. If they are stressed easily, I would do this 3 days in a row max.
  • When in doubt, gel gel and more gel! Also, using a satin scarf to smooth down the edges. Overnight for a sleeker look.

Mall snacks.

It never fails. I could eat the breakfast of champions and I would still want a Auntie Anne's pretzel when I come to Crossgates.

It reminds me of Louie C.K. bit about the airport and Cinnabons. You feel guilt and shame. Are they even that good anyway? But still you wait in line and grab one anyway.

What's your favorite mall snack?

Dont be so...SHEA.. My first natural hair meetup.

I decided to venture out of my apartment to meet other naturals in Albany. I missed the product swap by a week upon joining meetup.com back in July. However, I was excited for :" Natural talent + Natural products = Naturally Beautiful." event held on Saturday, August 25th. You would have thought I was going out on date the days leading up to it-"What should I bring?", "Dress or shorts?" and "What should I do to my hair?!'

Hits:
  • Meeting the other wonderful ladies.
  • Coming home with whipped shea butter and diy curl defining serum.
I'm in love with these Mason jars.
  • Talking to others who can relate and laugh about hair. It's gets lonely talking to yourself about how dry your ends are or the joys of having a sweet twistout. Plus, my boyfriend can only take so much of my new hobby. Also, I don't think all the YT guru's/vloggers I watch can hear me thru the computer screen. I like having company that can interact and add to my knowledge!

Misses:

  • RSVP'S and being on time: 1.  I dislike lateness. 2. If you rsvp to an event or party, you should attend. It's rude!
I would have liked to meet the other women that rsvp'ed for the event as well.
It's unfair to the event planner to plan for x amount of people-money, time and supplies and only half of x show up.
That was the only miss, or rather a personal pet peeve. However, there are factors one can not control in life. So you make the best of it!

& we did.

We made three whipped puddings with a shea butter base. The first contained coconut and peppermint oil and vegetable glycerin. The second had aloe vera, vegtable glycerin, coconut oil. The last one had grapeseed oil, rosemary oil and vitamin E.

I can't wait to try them in my hair. Plus, they will work well as a body butter for the upcoming fall and winter.

SO, I will be attending more meetups in the 518 and NYC area. It's a good time. All for the love of hair.

Hello.

This blog will be mostly dedicated to some of my favorite things: fashion, food and hair! I spend too much of my nonexistent income on them.

I'm always hungry and ready to try something new or have another heaping of comfort...so welcome to the ramblings of my adventures.

Ice Cream around Midnight.

Does ice cream taste best the first day you open it? I believe so. I dislike opening my freezer and finding little glistening ice droplets in my pint. After 10 days or so, it taste like freezer.

It just means pint sized ice cream is meant to be eaten right then and there...in one sitting, after you went to spin class. Because you work out once every two weeks. Maintaining dat boootay! EAT ME, the ice cream said. I obeyed. It's OK I ate baby carrots and tomatoes with 3chicks and P Cilantro-Lime Hummus for lunch. and Taco Bell...ugh.

It's Friday the 13th. F' it. Butter Pecan will bring me luck.

Balanced d(lie)t!
